Funny-Nosed Lady

This is a parody of a drawing in one of my old art textbooks.
Im not sure who the orinial artist is but even though the drawing comes off to be plain and simple, its seems as though its alot more to this drawing than the i can see; well my eyes.

Black Power

This sketch was pretty much a thumbnail for a black history project.
I never got a chance to mess with it anymore.

MAinly because my attention was drawn to other ideas.
I also noticed that i added a notzi symbol in my piece which nothing to do with blacks or black history.

Home Sweet Home

Even though my teacher gave me a C for this acrylic painting. I still feel as though i improved in this more realistic painting compared to my previous posts. The different shades and tones throughout the grass and sidewalk gives it that allusion of distance.

Allusions

This is a complimentary acrylic painting made to give you that repetitive movement, allusion.
I couldve spent alot more time with my neatness and its obvious that i didnt have that much painting experiance

A.B.M. pt.2

This was an assignment i had freshmen semester.
My first painted piece.

Nothing spectacular but the way i worked the value scale brings this piece to life.

Her tattoo

Love Beatz

This mage was taking at a photo shoot at a bus station near Virginia State University. This piece has potential for a promotional ad for the Dr. Dre Beats.

sketching

I did this pencil sketching out of boredem
The clouds are more cartoonish as the heart and rose has that 2-d effect.

A.B.M.

All about Me
This pencil sketching is pretty much a collaboration of some things that i love.
The J and P are my initials. i made them the biggest mainly because my name is my label.

I love to sing so i have music notes coming from the mouth. The basketball is in place for the punctuation and is also my favorite sport. the star represents my love for carttons and the clouds are just for filler.

True Fan

The Philadelphia Eagles are the best team in the NFL! Of course that would be the number one statement from any true fan.

As an artist, as well as a true fan, I just had to create a self portrait wearing nothing but Eagles apparel. Because charcoal is my strongest media for portraits, I just had to use it.

As the years go by and the seasons become more competitive, I grow stronger and stronger as a true, diehard, Eagles fan.

The Kaws of Brothers

My love for cartoons and graphic design inspired this drawing. Cartoons are probably ¾ of what I been watching on television since a child.

Brian Donnelly is my favorite graphic designer from New York who created kaws which is illustrated on Riley and Huey from The Boondocks. Brian usually illustrate his artwork with cartoons mostly for minors.

I decided to collaborate some of his work with my own by using my own form of graphics, a newer modern day cartoon for adults, and using the x for eyes and bright puffs for ears.

lifeless

The other is all black and white with a grey allusion made from a repetition of strokes with a black ball point pen and a thin point sharpie. The black/white tone gives the sunflower a sense of no life compared to the colored piece in the last blog.
Plenty of hatching, diagnol/horizontal strokes, and patience was well needed in this pen drawing.

Life

Life
This piece is a collaboration of a Prismacolor pencil drawing.
Each pedal is layered and blended with smooth colors that portray a sense of life.

It took me alot of white to bring out the actual texture of the sunflower.
Its kind of hard to notice from the uploaded picture, (to me) but if you look closely you can see how my background faids from sky blue to a darker blue to try to complement the center.

I did two separate pieces of art of the same sunflower as I will show in my next post that portrays lifeless.

Joy

JOY

This particular piece is ironically special to me. This pretty female’s name is Joy, but she brings me the opposite of Joy at times.
Icant complain because thats part of the whole love package. She’s also my best friend so I no she means no harm.
This was my first female portrait. I wanted to have soft tones and blends so I used charcoal and charcoal pencils.

Peaceful Noise

This piece sets me in a relaxing state of mind. The moonlight and the bright snow near a river gives a since of a calm and peaceful breeze at night.

The wolf howling alone at the moon compliments the landscape. In doing so it also gives me the feeling of being alone long enough to be free from the world.

college life

This was a school assignment where I had to set up a still life in the corner in my room with things that makes me feel at home. That is exactly what I did.
As my first semester at Virginia State University passed by, I always felt at home. I had my basketball to release stress as I did at home
I had my bible to remind me that God is with me no matter where I may reside. I also had my pencils which were the tools I used to escape from the world and explore my thoughts and emotions on paper.
Last but not least I had my mirror. The mirror reflected more than just my roommates’ junk. It reminded me that the person that I saw had came along way from home and that I wasn’t blind to see that

Go VSU!!!

Because I love music just as much as drawing, I decided to create a pencil drawing of Dr. Phillips who is the head of the music department at Virginia State University.
I illustrated some graphic design by having silhouettes of instruments, music notes, and other graphics to give that illusion the he has a music aroma or a connection to music.
The VSU in the clouds gives the illusion that there floating and which compliments the rest of my drawing and gives it that 2-d appearance.

Flashback 11's

Flashback 11’s

This is a drawing of the retro 11 concords. I named the image flashback because they remind me of the insane experience I went through to get them.

Long story short, me and some close friends waited in the cold for hours for the concords. One of my friends past out, one was taken out of line, and a kid was hit by a car. To make a story even shorter, I didn’t even get them.

The need for Cheese

The Need for Cheese
This particular drawing has so many stories inside a story. This was an assignment to explore my mind by picking something specific and breaking it down.
Instead of breaking down the actual container and having characters build it like most students did, I just created fictional stories and journeys within each other.
This drawing was done in all pencil and no references.

Family always means everyting.

F.A.M.E

This pencil sketch was the first tattoo I drew and got for myself on my inner right arm. F.A.M.E is abbreviated for “family always means everything”.

My family means a lot to me. I feel like that will never change and because of that I figured it should be a permanent statement of visible art.
